July 13, 2014  The Chesapeake Bay Retriever Club of United Kingdom held their annual Championship show on 13th July 2014. The Judge was Christine Mayhew.

Best in show:  Margaret Woods‘ Sh Ch Nunneyswood Drifting Snow, handled by grandaugher, Gemma Price.
Reserve Best in Show: Roly Hoares‘ Ch Petsalls Pride Lila, handled by Paula Greystone and Maria Knapsall.
Best Male in Show was Roly Hoare’s Petsalls Pride Cedar.

Judge‘s critique of Winners: Of my best in show and reserve best in show, I will critique these two half sisters together as they are like peas in a pod. Both had lovely, correct heads Drift’s slightly stronger than Lila, both had lovely expressions, length of neck, good chests and bodies. Angulation shoulder and rear were good and balanced in both and both moved well. Coats on both were really excellent, Drift in slightly better coat today. I could have flipped a coin to decide between them but eventually chose my first place on Drift’s slightly fuller coat giving her the CC and a very worthy Best in Show; Lila I gave the Reserve CC and Reserve Best in Show. Two first class examples of bitches who will be hard to beat in the ring and who, I am sure, will swop places many times.

Best male was a beautiful dog with a good masculine head, decent length of neck, good depth and width to chest and good spring of rib. Excellent angulation front and rear and balanced with resultant flowing movement. Excellent coat that would definitely keep out the cold and the water. To be critical, I would prefer him a shade taller and longer in neck but the rest of him in the same ratios. Friendly, exuberant temperament to the point that he really showed off and his handler had her hands full!  Dog CC.
