WD - WDX - WDQ Tests

There were 4 judges for the WD & WDX, two on the land and two located at the water.  If you qualified while running the land work, you were given a small card with your number on to proceed right to the water work and hand to the judges there when it was your turn.  Dogs moved through the tests quickly this way.

Judges:   on the land   -  Ron & Ginny Reed, Pennsylvania
on the water  - Doug Puwal, Virginia  & Bradley Sisson

Note from the Judges:  The ACC WD and WDX stakes following a National Specialty show are normally large entries of Chesapeake Bay Retrievers with diverse amounts of field training --- this was no exception. We could not have done our job without all the volunteers behind the scenes, our thanks to them for their hard work. The Committee made a very difficult decision to cancel the WDQ. I know many entered were rightly upset.  As a judge. we agreed that there just was not enough time or water to fit all three events into the area at one time.

It was nice to see so many of the handlers giving the WD title a try. We hope some have gotten hooked and will continue on to other field titles or try again. Over all the pass rate was near 50%. As the judges for the land the commentary, this is what we saw.
Things we noticed:  not one surly dog!  All Chesapeakes gave up the ducks readily. Dogs will be dogs, some decided that test time was a time to see other things in the field. All but one Chesapeake was eager to retrieve, the one that did not clearly was stressed by all the people everywhere and would not leave its owner.  One lady brought a smile to our face with her enthusiasm.  We were happy that one of her Chesapeakes did pass. Over all the dog work was good.
